Welcome to 7th and 8th Grade U.S. History!!!

Hi y'all. I say y'all a lot because I'm from Texas!

I'll be your Social Studies teacher this year. In order to understand why the world is how it is and to figure out how we're going to take our place in this world, we need to understand how the economy, politics, geography, society, and culture work together. We won't only be studying history this year; we'll be discussing current events and taking action! I believe art and music are critical, and you will hear me sing and see my dance in class. Even when everyone starts to say, "Please, Miss, stop!"

When I'm not teaching and grading, I like to go hiking, dance (especially Just Dance on Youtube), train Brazilian jiu-jitsu, talk on the phone, and play with my nieces and nephews.  Since quarantine started, I began to paint. (No masterpieces here, though.) I love to eat Indian saag paneer, Lebanese tabouli, Venezuelan cachapas, Mexican tacos, Honduran baleadas, French patisserie, and American pizza.

After graduating from public school in Katy, Texas, I went to college at Harvard University, outside of Boston, majoring in Social Studies. I then received a Masters degree in Education from UMass Boston. I've been teaching for over 15 years--Social Studies, ELA, Spanish, and ENL. I've taught in Catholic, private, and public schools in Houston, Boston, Lebanon, and Brazil. Along the way, I've learned to speak Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, and a little French.

I'm looking forward to a great year together!
