This is my eleventh year at West Bronx! I am the Assistant Principal of the Middle School at West Bronx Academy. I also supervise math and science teachers. Before becoming AP, I taught science (Living Environment, Chemistry and Earth Science) here too.  For several years I worked on writing, piloting and developing the Living Environment Curriculum that is used here at West Bronx, as well as in many schools around New York City and State. Before teaching at West Bronx, I worked full time as a scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering in an Immunology Lab. 

 

I am also the tenth-grade advisory teacher at West Bronx. In this role, I help students with the school-based (academic) concerns as well as developing social and emotional skills that they will need when they leave high school. 

 

When I am not teaching at West Bronx, I might be teaching at Hunter College in the Administration and Supervision program. Aside from that, I try to spend as much time with my wife and two kids as I can. I also am a runner. I have completed two marathons, twelve half marathons, and a lot of shorter races as well.

 

I love to listen to fiction when I am driving, and I read a lot of research papers: I like to read research papers that study professional development for teachers (specifically new teachers) as well as science and math specific professional development.

 

I have a BS degree in Biological Sciences from Fordham University (2006), an MS in Teaching from Fordham University (2009), a Certification of Advanced Study from Hunter College (2014) and I am working to finish my EdD at Hunter (2021). The research I am doing for my doctorate studies the persistence patterns of undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) students. I hope to use this research to inform the professional development work I do with the teachers at West Bronx and through New Visions for Public Schools.
